FOR HERMAN Blount, life has never been the same since he decided to change his name. A former big-band piano player, Herman metamorphosed into Sun Ra, in which guise he has spent the past 20 years baffling large sections of the jazz world with his singular melange of free form music, science fiction mysticism, tribal dance, and off-the-wall peculiarity.
