Suicide: The Leadmill, Sheffield

Paul Lester, Melody Maker, 24 December 1988

SUICIDE'S dispassionate sheet ice of sound is a freezed-up fusillade, a remorseless puncturing of steel-hard cymbals by a psychotic, pneumatic drill. Entirely emptied of the fallible, human vestiges of soulfulness, it is a blood-cold, glacial clash and clatter, a 900 below zero cruel chill-out. Ice hot, Suicide extinguish with a mesmerising motor-pulverising machine beat that is both massive and minimalist in the extreme.
