Stevie Ray Vaughan: Montreux Jazz Festival, Casino de Montreux

Roy Carr, New Musical Express, 3 August 1985

AS WITH limpid Blue Eyes there's always a ready-made market for or'nery-looking electric guitar slingers. The sight of devotees in the audience holding aloft large hand-written placards pleading: "Stevie, please play 'Voodoo Chile'" is indicative of European attitudes towards the guitar hero syndrome. That Vaughan also sports the appearance of a Leone spaghetti western star further dictates his role and guarantees him regular employment on the festival circuit.
