Stevie Ray Vaughan: Double Your Trouble, Double Your Fun

Bill Bentley, L.A. Weekly, 25 August 1983

AS THE irascible rhythm & blues guru of New Orleans, Ernie K-Doe, is wont to say when seized by a philosophical spirit, "It's not understanding that's the most important thing in life; it's paying attention that's gonna pull you through." This from the man who is now a reigning prince of the Crescent City, 20 years following his first hit, 'Mother-In-Law'. When he isn't on his knees at any number of nightclubs around the town, K-Doe can be found holding forth on the most knocked-out radio show in the country. The man makes more sense out of the nonsensical than the Catholic Church and Professor Irwin Corey combined, and as far as the importance of understanding versus paying attention is concerned, I now try to keep my eyes wide open all the time.
