LAST MAY, James Chance left New York for Paris, France — and he hasn't returned yet. The feisty funk merchant was accompanied by guitarist Patrick Geoffrois and companion/manager Anya Phillips; together they mapped out a tour of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands to be played with pickup musicians in much the same manner as Chance had played his final round of New York gigs before departing.
