MARC ALMOND and David Ball of Soft Cell make great singles. Like Paul McCartney, Abba and precious few others these days, they're adept at creating delightful interludes of pure escapism. The Art of Falling Apart has two such splendid tracks: 'Where the Heart Is', with a heartrending melody and cascading keyboards, and 'Numbers', featuring Almond's gleefully leering vocals and a tantalizing stop-start tempo.
