Scritti Politti: Cupid and Psyche 85 (Warner Brothers)
Richard Gehr, Spin, September 1985
SCRITTI POLITTI (Italian for "political writings") emerged in the late 70s as a hyperanalytic postpunk trio, breaking onto the pop-aesthetic horizon with a series of light, pesky singles that presumed to consider the conditions of their production while at the same time tempting tender youths into dancelike postures. The group's vocalist, songwriter, and principal theoretician was Green Strohmeyer-Gartside, a young man who undoubtedly spent much time staring at his handsome visage in mirrors and even more time thinking about staring at himself.
