Sammy Hagar Vs. The Battling Bouviers From Planet X

Jack Basher, Creem, May 1978

SAN FRANCISCO — Had Sammy Hagar followed in his dad's footsteps — Papa Hagar was bantam-weight champ in 1946 — he'd probably have turned out to be the WASP Muhammad Ali. The Southern California-born Hagar is now a resident of mellow Marin County — where people still labor under the misapprehension that electrified folk music is what rock 'n' roll is all about. Hagar knows better. He's probably the only true rocker in the Bay Area — and he's not shy about reminding anyone who has any doubts.
