Ry Cooder: Paradise And Lunch

Bud Scoppa, Phonograph Record, July 1974

RY COODER has a corner of the rock & roll world all to himself. Like the folk traditionalists, he draws on dead or dying idioms for much (but not all) of his material; he invests it with such immediacy however, that there's never a sense of arcanum about his renditions. His music isn't a history lesson except in its uncanny evocations of the emotional core of the past.
