WHAT DWIGHT Yoakam is to new-traditionalist country's male division, Rosie Flores could be to its distaff side. Like Yoakam, she comes out of the California club scene, with rock's power and impudence in one fist and country music's most sacred sonic customs in the other. And as with Yoakam's work, the singing steals the show: Flores is graced with a Loretta Lynn-Patsy Cline high alto that can lift life's heaviest emotions with one finger. Where Flores falls behind Yoakam on this solo debut is in her choice of songs and arrangements. An ironic footnote: Yoakam and Flores are both produced by Pete Anderson.
