Roots of Country: Jimmie Rodgers, Jimmie Driftwood, Hank Snow albums

Tony Russell, Cream, June 1972

THESE THREE double albums (with a fourth by Eddy Arnold) open a reissue series presumably intended to uncover the roots of today’s country music. Each of them couples two LPs, once available, but long deleted; the Rodgers set, for instance, is Train Whistle Blues and Jimmie The Kid. No ground for complaint there; RCA re-released virtually all Rodgers’ work on their seven LPs, and Train and Kid were arguably the best of that set.
