Roger McGuinn: The Jingle Jangle Man

Tom Hibbert, Q, April 1991

Nothing defined the sound of The Byrds so much as the 12-string Rickenbacker guitar of their leader Jim McGuinn. As the years went by his name changed to Roger, the groovy granny spectacles got lost, and The Byrds passed into history. Now he's solo, but the Rickenbacker remains: "It's my strength," he tells Tom Hibbert. "That jingle-jangle thing. It's what I've always done."
