Rick James: Reflections (Motown)

ACCEPTING THE press stereotype of Rick James as a total prat whose releases served only as excuses for another dig, I completely ignored the man until '82, when his Throwin' Down LP surprised me very pleasantly. He became a welcome guest on my turntable, and although he could've changed his tailor/discovered feminism/shut his mouth, you couldn't fault his different and dazzling brand of straightforward spank-funk.
