Ray Davies

Jim Sullivan, The Boston Globe, September 1981

MINNEAPOLIS: "It's like death in here," Ray Davies says, inauspiciously welcoming me into Marquette Inn room 1453. The shades are drawn, no lights are on. Davies has been ill, running a temperature of 102 before last night's concert at Metropolitan Sports Center. The Kinks' lead singer and songwriter has recently woken up and looks pallid. Today he's off; his only "work" is this late afternoon interview. We order up hot stuff, coffee for me, and hot water — straight up — for Davies' ailing throat.
