There were no bad girls in British pop music in the early Sixties — certainly nothing to compare with the most daring American girl groups of the same period: the Ronettes with their slutty beehives and knowing eyes or the Shangri-Las, who sang about bikers and looked like they did unmentionable things in the back seat of cars.
