Prince: Controversy (Warner Bros.)

Sandy Robertson, Sounds, 21 November 1981

THERE IS only one message on a Prince record. The message is the massage, or vice-versa, the politick of the dick. Fortunately, Prince's unilateral (he plays most everything on the album's 8 trax) declaration of multisexual, pan-pervy promiscuity as funkin' revolution is made with tongue firmly in the cheeks of his, and evvabuddy else's, ass, baby. I mean, the whore ain't a bore, y'know7 Yeh. And that's a boost, because don't we just hate folks who talk in bed? Yup.
