Prince & the New Power Generation: Earls Court, London

Jeff Lorez, Blues & Soul, 30 June 1992

GOOD OLD Prince, where would we be without him? In an industry that often seems filled with blandness and conformity there's the lil' fella in flares, high heels and the bouffonced hair-do, slidin', sweatin', cursin', doing the splits, shimmyin', screamin', funkin', takin' his clothes off, puttin' them back on, humping the air and using his microphone as both a phallic symbol and shot gun and generally making our pulses race that much faster and giving us all something to talk about. If that's what being a mega pop star is all about then Prince has honed the formula down to its purest, most explosive components, registered the secret and on this tour he's chosen to unleash the potent brew in generous quantities — and he's funky as hell!
