Although Pink Floyd has always represented itself – through album graphics, song and album titles, and stage presentation – as working in the outer limits of the rock avant garde, the group’s music and accessories have placed it much closer to Cinerama and Disneyland than to serious innovators; you might call that milieu ersatz avant garde.
