Paul McCartney: Pipes of Peace (Columbia QC 39149)

Mitchell Cohen, High Fidelity, February 1984

PAUL McCARTNEY just wants everyone to play nice. When he addresses any topic pertaining to the outside world, he takes on the wheedling tone of a babysitter stuck with squabbling siblings: 'Let It Be', 'Ebony and Ivory', 'Give Ireland Back to the Irish'. (The last reduced an incendiary issue to the level of "Aw, c'mon. let your little brother have the football.") And when the subject is his own domestic situation, each day is Valentine's Day.
