THE HAIRCUT speaks volumes. A multi-storeyed do with the sides shaved, it confirms Omar's refusal to exchange street fashions for something more upmarket. His has been the unspoken success story of 1990; with an independently backed modern soul LP that gave the majors something to tear their hair out to sales-figures wise, the journey from some moonlight club in Hackney to a near sell-out Hammersmith show has been rocky but well-deserved.
