THE BRITISH Phonographic Industry, the record trade organisation, never did manage to endear itself to Margaret Thatcher. Its connection with sex and drugs and rock 'n' roll (or acid-house parties) apparently ruled out any positive response to pop enterprise (no knighthood for Pete Waterman).
