New Releases: The Kids Err Alright

Howard Wuelfing, Unicorn Times, July 1977

REMEMBER "PUNK ROCK?" For a while there it was the supreme hip misconception — a much abused catch-all referring in general to any sort of "new" music capable of rippling the adrenaline-puddes of the professionally jaded. Now, of course, it's deader'n a dead person. The "right" word is "new wave"; content-wise it's exactly the same thang — only the monikker's new and improved (no sarcasm is intended here — "new wave" is a much better name for this movement since it acknowledges the very real parallels between it and avant-garde French film in the 60's). But you know folks, "punk" did and does exist.
