Neville Brothers: Shaw Theatre, London

Richard Williams, The Times, 5 November 1985

NEW ORLEANS has Nevilles like Washington has Kennedys and Kent has Cowdreys. Notwithstanding claims on behalf of the Marsalis clan, the four brothers Neville represent the city's unique heritage of vernacular music at its most pungent and virile. Within them repose the traditions of deviant keyboard virtuosos from Jelly Roll Morton to Professor Longhair, of inspired drummers from Baby Dodds to Zigaboo Modelliste, and of the wonderful crop of postwar rhythm 'n' blues and soul singers exemplified by Fats Domino and Lee Dorsey.
