MOST PEOPLE WHO KNOW ANYTHING about music journalism know that the late Frank Zappa defined it, in 1977, as "people who can't write interviewing people who can't talk for people who can't read." [1] Much of the writing about popular music over the past half-century probably warrants such a scathing dismissal.
