Monster Magnet: Manchester University

Dave Simpson, The Guardian, 24 February 2004

MONSTER MAGNET have always displayed an ability to be in the right place at the right time. Formed in 1989, when Nirvana's fury revitalised all things rock, the Magnet benefited with their turbocharged blend of Black Sabbath, MC5 and Hawkwind. When Marilyn Manson drew rock further towards the dark, somebody remembered that Magnet vocalist Dave Wyndorf had described his band as a "Satanic drug thing" and they rode a major deal to success. Now, having refrained from terrorising young people's hearing since 2001, they're back, just as interest in primal rock has been reignited by the White Stripes.
