MORE THAN twenty years ago, when he was 19, Vic Damone was one of the top hitmakers. He had four or five massive sellers in a row. But he saw very little of the money — "I had too much faith in people" — and later, when he acquired more reliable management, he no longer seemed able to turn out hits.
