DURING THIS past summer a work of uncompromising brilliance by a relatively unknown composer on a fledgling independent label has shaken the British rock industry. Tubular Bells, the end result of two years' work by an itinerant session man named Mike Oldfield, was immediately hailed upon its release as a masterpiece, and it hasn't stopped selling since.
