Mike + the Mechanics: Engineering a New Future

It may have begun as a side project away from Genesis while Phil Collins tried to sort out his marital difficulties, but Mike + the Mechanics have become just as synonymous with Mike Rutherford more than three decades later. The latest incarnation of the group – featuring Andrew Roachford of 'Cuddly Toy'fame and Tim Howar on vocals – have a new album out in April, and are sharing the bill with the aforementioned Mr Collins at British Summer Time in Hyde Park this summer. David Burke spoke to the chief Mechanic.
