WHAT A DIFFERENCE a year makes. Twelve months ago bassist and band leader Me'Shell NdegeOcello's debut album, Plantation Lullabies, had just been released by Maverick. Her single 'Dred Loc' was beginning to rise up the charts, and the press had pounced on the singer — a declared bisexual — for writing hetero lyrics. She already hated being a recording artist.
