Martin Scorsese: Shine A Light

John Lewis, Sight & Sound, April 2008

A live film of a Rolling Stones concert, recorded at the Beacon Theater in New York over the course of two nights (October 29 and November 1) on the band's Bigger Bang tour of 2006. The Rolling Stones – complete with a three-piece horn section, four backing singers and two keyboard players – are introduced by Bill Clinton and joined on stage by guests, Jack White, Christina Aguilera and Buddy Guy. The songs are intercut with archive TV footage of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood being interviewed in the 1960s, '70s and '80s. There is also behind-the-scenes footage of preparation for the New York show and contemporary interviews with the band.
