Madder Rose: Astoria, London

Andrew Smith, The Guardian, 13 April 1994

HENDRIX'S line, when tuning his instrument between songs, used to be, "Hey, only cowboys stay in tune." The post-grunge equivalent of this, as articulated by the American group Madder Rose at the Astoria on Saturday night, is "We tune up a lot because we care — and 'cos we suck!" Neither Beavis nor Butthead could have put it better.
