NORTHERN SOUL favourite Lou Johnson died on 1stt May, aged 78. Born in 1941 in Brooklyn, New York, Lou sang in gospel groups including the Zionettes and studied music at Brooklyn University in the late 1950s. He formed a trio the Coanjos, cutting 'Dance The Boomerang' for Dapt Records in 1961.
