Little Willie John

Charlie Gillett, Fusion, 13 November 1970

TO START where I should, with autobiographical recollection: the only Little Willie John single I can remember hearing when it came out was 'Leave My Kitten Alone', which was played three or four times on Radio Luxemburg in 1959. But what got me then wasn't Willie John's voice, or even the incredible sax break, which are all I hear now, but a bunch of girls in the background who went "miaow, miaow" to such sexy effect that I had to close my eyes and hold on to something till the record finished.
