LINDA THOMPSON’S memories of touring the United States with her soon-to-be ex-husband Richard are filtered through an alcoholic haze and a skewed sense of delight. The marriage had already soured. She’d stalk off stage when her vocals weren’t needed, and would often trip him up purposely on stage. "I was a monster," she recalls. "It was like a Chekhov play."
