Light Of The World, Innervisions: Hammersmith Odeon, London

Sheryl Garratt, New Musical Express, 20 June 1981

WHILE JAZZFUNK is fine late at night with the volume low, it's a strictly background sound to my ears, and so tedious live. Take Innervisions, a band that were competent, tasteful, yet somehow had the knack of making the minutes pass like hours. They remind me of vacuous cocktail parties or hip supermarket muzak, a bland and soulless proof that good musicians do not necessarily make good music.
