Kraftwerk: Barrowlands, Glasgow

Paul Lester, Melody Maker, 20 July 1991

THEY SMILE. That's the first surprise. Dressed in black, the four Kraftwerk-ers briskly stride on stage to take their places behind the giant computer consoles like scientists late for a lab experiment, and Florian Schneider actually smiles. Granted, it's hardly a cheesy grin worthy of Sid James but it knocks this audience for 60. They go wild, they roar, they scream Ralf Hutter's name. Ralf even manages a grimace himself. Kraftwerk smile. Don't knock it.
