Kool and the Gang: Hammersmith Odeon, London

Richard Cook, New Musical Express, 25 February 1984

KOOL AND his men personify the exhilarated and bloodless heart of pop-soul. For some reason they are always celebrating: they stand us up for the good times. With Kool. we never stop stepping out (though where to isn't clear). When the Hollywood swingers touch on one of their best tunes it's a huge snort of cherry soda up the nostrils, not the space dust of EW&F or the sterner substance of the darker soul creatures.
