Kid Creole & the Coconuts: Lyceum, London

Mick Brown, The Guardian, 13 October 1982

IT SEEMS only fitting that when August Darnell, a.k.a. Kid Creole, finishes this British tour which celebrates his transition from exotic cult figure to top ten artist, he should begin work on an adaptation of the Mikado which will be his vehicle into Broadway. Darnell, perhaps more than any other performer working in rock, understands and reveres the conventions of the musical and knows best how that most traditional of forms may be tailored to contemporary sensibilities.
