THERE ARE TWO words that have always epitomised the voice of Kate McGarrigle for me – they came in a Rolling Stone review that followed the release of her first album with her sister Anna: "Not since Carole King's Tapestry has the female voice been recorded with such unblemished intimacy," it read.
