Joy of Cooking get better every time their record plays; they have no stylistic similarity with Van Morrison or the Band, but have the same knack of forcing the listener to abandon preconceptions of how things ought to sound, of making him listen to what is there. The more he relaxes and accepts their terms, the more comes back to him.
