Josh Rouse: Dingwalls, London

Nick Hasted, Uncut, May 2002

ON HIS SECOND LP, Home, Nashville-based Nebraskan Josh Rouse seemed to favour the brass-brushed country-soul sound of friend and fellow citizen Kurt Wagner. But new record Under Cold Blue Stars, and this winning performance in north London especially, may show his true colours — as a believer in sensitive songwriting about insecurity, thwarted love and dreams, unexpectedly played as smooth widescreen pop.
