THERE WAS THE Fillmore East, the East Coast's major rock palace, located ingratiously in a heap of garbage, drunks and weekend freaks on Second Ave. and 6th St. There was Steve Paul, owner of The Scene, a basement rock club in another neighborhood, Eighth Ave. and 48th St. Steve Paul was outside in the club's rented station wagon.
