Johnny Cash, Carter Family, Statler Brothers, Carl Perkins: Royal Albert Hall, London

Andrew Means, Melody Maker, 7 October 1972

FOR ONE reason or another, Johnny Cash has a rather fearsome image. It's been tempered in recent times by some of the songs he's written and things he's said, about not stepping all over people's faces just cos they got long hair and things like that, but generally the idea is that Cash is a mountain of a man who could beat up the entire American population with one hand tied behind his back.
