John Hiatt and the Sub-American Shoe Polish

Sandy Robertson, Sounds, 15 September 1979

HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD, at four in the afternoon; sultry, but no rush hour. A street strewn with soggy cheeseburgers, watery Coke (registered trade mark) in giant striped cartons, and novelty stores selling Kiss radios. Tight little behinds in cut-off jeans that threaten to halt the circulation, both of the wearer and the observer. Sweat runs the length of my thigh, Sharona, as I ride the elevator to meet John Hiatt.
