SO FINALLY J. J. CALE MADE IT TO BRITAIN. The sleepy Okie singer, guitarist and master of the recording studio isn't particularly keen on talking about himself at the best of times. But when, as during last week's visit, he's confronted by a bewildering procession of press and radio people, all asking the same personal history questions about "How I came to write ’After Midnight'," as he puts it, rolling his eyes heavenwards, he couldn't be more relieved than to talk about electronics, guitars and music itself.
