Jackson Browne: The Pretender (Asylum)
Colin Irwin, Melody Maker, 13 November 1976
THE CHOICE of Jackson Browne's classic 'Late For The Sky', with all its mystique and aura, as soundtrack to the movie Taxi Driver, was no haphazard selection. At its best (as in 'Late For The Sky'), Browne's music has a desperate pathos which was so right for that superb film; and hopefully that soundtrack choice might also have theeffect of bringing Browne's aggressively lyrical talents to wider attention in this country, where he remains absurdly neglected. In which case those people are likely to become committed converts through this hard, passionate album.
