Ian Dury: Where Blockheads Dare…

Danny Baker, ZigZag, January 1979

IN 1979 THE music press could well go the way of The Times. Rock'n'roll is all about crucial exhibitions of art, quiet spoken interviews with distressed depressives who despair at the stupid world, the word 'interesting' means a thousand times more than 'enjoy', a nine minute riff by Public Image is modern rock. A three minute dance tune by Earth Wind and Fire is rubbish for morons.
