Fugazi: Repeater (Dischord)

Push, Melody Maker, 31 March 1990

IMPURITY AND impatience are two of the most obviously immediate characteristics of Repeater, Fugazi's third LP. Words drip with spit and guitar notes collide, the bass is a melodic terror, muscling to the fore of 'Sieve-Fisted Find' and 'Two Beats Off', and many of the songs involve sudden shifts of intention and interest. If it occasionally seems simpler than their eponymous debut and Margin Walker, it's only because of greater familiarity with the Fugazi sound, that uneasy alliance between reggae and thrash. Mind you, the catchy chorus of the title track shows a clearer pop sensibility than anything the band have ever done before.
