FRED FOSTER, the founder of Monument and Sound Stage 7 Records, died on 20th February in Nashville, aged 87. Born in North Carolina in 1931 he joined Mercury Records in the mid-'50s, falling out with them over his promotion of rockabilly artists and their failure to sign Elvis Presley from Sun.
