Frank Fairfield: Out On The Open West

Rob Hughes, Uncut, August 2011

FRANK FAIRFIELD looks and sounds like a transplant from another age. All starched collars and hair oil, he plays vintage hillbilly folk on similarly vintage instruments like his life depended on it. Witnessing him first-hand is an oddly kinetic experience. Robin Pecknold certainly sensed a kindred spirit when he caught him live a few years back and immediately asked Fairfield to open for Fleet Foxes (his take on 'The Dying Cowboy' also appeared on Uncut's recent Pecknold-curated cover mount CD).
